I acknowledge that purely digital art is a medium in its own right. Fine artists like the late David Hockney have loved it. My art, however, is handmade. The serigraph print you acquire isn’t a copy of an original. The print is the original. This page discusses how I view the use of technology in the production of artwork.

Up front let’s settle this perennial question: No, I do not offer AI-generated images. Generative AI images are not, in my opinion, the work of a human artist. Art bridges the subjective perspectives of a human viewer and a human artist. I don’t consider AI-generated images to be art on the same level as human art.

Technology makes it very easy to get, alter, republish and claim a piece of someone else’s art. That’s plagiarism and plagiarism is stealing. I respect original creativity and I don’t violate ethics rules pertaining to others’ art and artist accreditation. Please don’t cross the line with my images. I put dozens of hours into each image, and many more hours into the actual printing, finishing and offering my art to collectors.

Adobe Photoshop is a studio tool. Although the name implies the software’s original purpose to edit photos, Photoshop is a very rich and comprehensive toolset. Some artists use it for producing original images. For me, Photoshop is an essential step in the long process of producing serigraphs from my original drawings. Check the Artist Insights Blog for descriptions of how I use various tools to scan drawings and create film for color screen printing.
