Denis Du Bois is an emerging artist recognized for his original drawings and fine art serigraphs that reflect diverse parts of the world.
Current themes
I’m currently working in fine art serigraphy, which is screen printing on paper. I print each image in a limited edition of anywhere from 15 to 100 prints. Most of my editions are part of a series of six images from my sketching trips to a part of the world. Each series showcases unique themes and styles, making them a valuable addition to any collection. I enable collectors to explore the beauty of the world with art.
How did you get here
I enrolled in university as a Fine Art Photography major. The realistic economic outlook for a young photographer prompted a change of plans. I started a long career in technology marketing right out of school. I specialized in digital typography, graphic arts software and high-quality printers — the tools that democratized design and publishing.
Those skills led naturally to a career in marketing communications, soon managing teams of designers and writers. I had to learn new skills rapidly on the job as I went along. I also took classes and workshops in topics like figure drawing, illustration and Adobe Photoshop.
I eventually started an agency and took on partners. Fine art would take a back seat for 25 years while I focused on our very brisk and fun business.
When I retired a few years ago, I finally had time to get back to my neglected love, which was drawing. I discovered a genre known as urban sketching. Figure drawing classes at the local college provided me with live models and a community of fellow artists. That’s also where I learned relief printing, intaglio, collagraphy and serigraphy.
Where are you headed next?
Urban sketching gave me the impetus to draw while traveling. Those drawings are a foundation for my art. I made dozens of sketches on a 2025 six-week visit to Spain, where I had lived briefly as a boy. I went on sketching outings with local groups of sketchers in Madrid and made many new, talented friends. Now I’m working on developing the most interesting sketches into art that I can reproduce using serigraphy. My next series will be France, where I once attended a semester of college and where I’ll go to sketch in 2026.
My figurative drawings also give me ideas for prints. I think there are several more possibilities for series. I’m going to find out, and I hope you’ll go with me. My Gallery showcases the art I have available for acquisition. Please have a look.
